Where it all began

I’m sure by now, most of you know Alex, (the owner and founder of Saddleworth poultry) and his passion for poultry.

What most of you don’t know is that his business actually started along time ago. 2015 to be exact, when Alex was only 15 years old. 

This has been a dream for him, to own a successful poultry business since he was a little boy.

He first fell in love with hens at 4 years old, when his gran and grandad had 6 cuckoo marans in the garden, which he took over the care of and later they were given to him.

He then got 7 isa browns for his 7th birthday, and the following Christmas got his first incubator.

He started selling chicks after the first hatch, bartering his was to afford the next at only 7 years old.

His grandad often took him to Chelford market, sneaking home with more hens than his mum and gran had said was allowed and it all carried on to grow from there.

Then at the age of 15 he decided to set up his official business ‘Saddleworth Poultry’  with the help of a friend, who Alex later paid  back for helping him set up.

In the year 2024 the business grew to become the limited company ‘Saddleworth poultry LTD’ 

This was driven by having his own son and wanting a legacy to leave for him. 

The company is still solely owned by Alex and all the care of the poultry is by the family (Alex, Emma and their little boy Skhy). 

It’s such a pleasure to now be able to share this passion with all of you and its so special for Alex especially when all the children come  with their parents to buy their first hens and have their own ideas of what they are wanting to do with them. 

Whether that’s having some lovely pets or  to start their own business  at such a young age.

Alex is proof that if you follow your passion and put your mind to it, it is possible despite what others may say.
